THE NEW GENERATION

Following last years successful jazz course, Cardiff Jazz Society is again
providing an educational project that will enable young people
of school/college age, to improve their musical ability
with experienced professional musicians in public performance.
 
Leading tutors from the South Wales region will guide the students
through two days of practise before appearing in public at Café Jazz.
 
The Cardiff Jazz Society wishes to thank
the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
for providing facilities for practise sessions.

Guitar prodigy Andreas Varady
was born in Slovakia into a Gypsy family.
The exceptionally gifted 12 year old
is already an accomplished
and imaginative musician,
inspired by his favourite guitarists
George Benson, Wes Montgomery
and Joe Pass.

Pianist Julian Martin has performed with leading British jazz figures,
including Guy Barker, Alan Barnes, Peter King and Jim Mullen.
He has recorded a cd with guitarist James Chadwick,
features on accordion with gypsy jazz outfit Five go Swing
and occasionally appears with the Amigos.
Julian also writes and performs music for TV and radio.
His own trio pays homage to the classic styles of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett.

Sparkling pianist Dick Roberts has long been a prominent musician
on the Welsh jazz scene.
He has also been first call on the commercial scene in Wales,
working extensively in radio and television.
Expect some interestingly reworked standards.

Alto saxophonist Glen Manby has studied in New York under the guidance
of luminaries George Garzone and Chico Freeman.
He has developed a style influenced by American alto star Jessie Davis.
Glen’s quartet embraces a wealth of musical complexity.
