Thursday 11th September - Gareth Roberts Quintet

CARDIFF JAZZ SOCIETY

PRS FOUNDATION – JAZZ PROMOTERS AWARD 2007/08

PRESS INFORMATION

For Immediate Release

GARETH ROBERTS QUINTET

Trombonist Gareth Roberts brings his lively band to Cafe Jazz, as guests of Cardiff Jazz Society, on Thursday 11 September (8.45pm).

Gareth has been playing in and around the South Wales area for a number of years now. Judging by the number of different Welsh bands he plays in, Gareth is highly regarded by other musicians. He plays with a variety of bands including the Welsh Jazz Composers Orchestra, The Heavy Quartet, Steve Waterman’s Jazz Orchestra, and the Rob Smith Onsombl as well as his own quintet. Regular bookings for television and radio work are combined with heavy involvement in music education.

Gareth’s own outfit, for which he writes all the material himself, have recorded a cd, “The Attack of the Killer Penguins”. Another is on the way, so expect to hear some new tunes during the gig at Café Jazz.

The lively quintet, which has built up a large following with their own unique, exciting brand of jazz, also features Gethin Liddington (trumpet), Paul Jones (piano), Chris O’Connor (bass) and drummer Mark O’Connor.

Winners of the Jazz Services Promoter’s Choice Award 2007/8.
