Ace guitarist Phil Robson and leading British saxophonist Julian Siegel bring their all-star quartet to Café Jazz, as guests of Cardiff Jazz Society, on Thursday 26 June (8.45pm).
Partisans have been thrilling audiences with their energetic performances. One of the first of the new wave of UK jazz bands to be influenced as much by Jimi Hendrix as by Miles Davis or Sonny Rollins, the band has been instrumental in the revitalisation of the UK jazz scene in recent years.
Their latest album “Max” is dedicated to the great jazz drummer Max Roach and Partisans again cook up a trademark shot of gritty be-bop and hard-bop, early electric Miles, rock riffs and jam-band grooves.
The richly lyrical and strongly melodic compositions written by co-leaders Phil Robson (guitar) and Julian Siegel (reeds) provide the framework and starting point for Partisans music. Their music is underpinned by the rock solid, freewheeling and supercharged rhythm section of drummer Gene Calderazzo and, on this occasion, Laurence Cottle (bass).
Not to be missed!
