Due to the sudden poor health of saxophonist Peter King, the previously advertised Cardiff Jazz Society event and opening night of the Jazz 4 Jed celebrations, has undergone a major change.
Ace saxophonist Dave O’Higgins now appears at short notice with his own quartet at Café Jazz, on Thursday 8 November (8.45pm).
O’Higgins performs all over the world with his own various bands, whether they are quartet, quintet, sextet or big band.
He has also toured, played and recorded with US3, Incognito, Salif Keita, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Cleo Laine and John Dankworth, Martin Taylor, Jim Mullen, Roadside Picnic, Jason Rebello, Clark Tracey, Peter Gabriel, Jamie Cullum and many, many more.
As well as making numerous solo albums, Dave is busy in the studio scene with jingles, TV themes and movie soundtracks. He is also a respected educator being Professor of saxophone at Leeds College of Music and Goldsmiths College.
On this occasion, Dave O’Higgins leads his own astonishing quartet that features pianist Jim Watson, Mick Coady (double bass) and drummer Matt Home. All in the intimate surrounds of Cardiff’s regular jazz venue where you can enjoy good food and good music.
