Pianist Mike Collins brings his trio to Café Jazz, as guests of Cardiff Jazz Society, on Thursday 10 July (8.45pm).
The trio have long been established in the Bristol/Bath region and have ventured over the Severn Bridge on several occasions in recent years.
Mike Collins, who writes and arranges for the trio, has earned a reputation as a lyrical improviser. He has been inspired by studying with Stan Sulzmann, Liam Noble and Geoff Simkins.
The trio, which also features Dorian Sutton (bass) and drummer Mark Whitlam have accompanied visiting musicians such as Dennis Rollins, Gilad Atzmon and Iain Ballamy.
Expect some of Mike original tunes as well as carefully crafted standards and non-standards, by such influences as Michel Petrucciani, Keith Jarrett and EST as well as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock etc.
