WILLIE GARNETT & JANUSZ CARMELLO

British tenor titan Willie Garnett locks horns with Polish-born trumpet star Janusz Carmello, when they appear as guests of Cardiff Jazz Society, at Café Jazz, on Thursday 4 February (8.45pm).

Willie Garnett has worked with almost every jazz musician both in the UK and USA, from Ben Webster to the Charlie Watts Orchestra.
He currently runs his own 18-piece big band in London, and his in-depth knowledge of the history of the saxophone is in constant demand by collectors.

Janusz Carmello was born in Warsaw where he started to play at the “late” age of 18. In 1966 he moved to Italy where he lived and played for 7 years. Since 1973 he has been living in London.
His musical career includes touring, recording and broadcasting with musicians of the highest calibre, such as Buddy Tate, Charles Mingus, Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis, Al Cohn, Benny Waters, Bud Freeman, Peter King, Dick Morrissey, Humphrey Lyttelton, Martin Taylor and many more.

Garnett and Carmello combine to startling effect, and are joined on this occasion by the superb John Gibbon Trio.
