CARDIFF JAZZ SOCIETY
DICK ROBERTS QUARTET
Sparkling pianist Dick Roberts brings his lively quartet to Cafe Jazz, as guests of Cardiff Jazz Society, on Thursday 2 September (8.45pm). Dick Roberts has, for a couple of decades, been the leading pianist on the Welsh jazz scene. He has also been first call on the commercial scene in Wales, working extensively in radio and television. In 1989 he took on the musical directorship for Max Boyce and later became MD for such television programmes as “Open to Question” and Peter Karrie’s “Unmasked”. Despite the demands of working in television and radio, Dick has maintained his jazz work. He has often appeared in rhythm sections at Brecon Jazz Festival, and has worked with a Who’s Who of British and American jazz musicians. Expect some interestingly reworked standards from a quartet that also features saxophonist Julian Tucker, Alun Vaughan (bass) and drummer Paul Smith.
