DICK HAMER QUINTET

featuring Gethin Liddington

Gethin Liddington and Dick Hamer

Leading South Wales saxophonist Dick Hamer brings his quintet to Cafe Jazz, as guests of Cardiff Jazz Society, on Thursday 25 March (8.45pm).
This lively outfit replaces the previously advertised Jason Yarde Trio Wah! who will now be appearing on 22 April.

Dick Hamer has been a key figure on the jazz scene in Wales for many years.
He is well known for his work in jazz education and has played with such luminaries as, Lew Tabackin, Bobby Shew, Stan Tracey, Scott Hamilton, Peter King, Stan Sulzmann and many more.

Gethin Liddington is equally at home with soul and dance music as with jazz – from trad to free improvisation.
As well as pursuing these interests in a freelance capacity and teaching regularly, he features in a number of notable big bands. These include the Paul Dunmall Octet (with whom he has recorded two CD’s, a Radio 3 broadcast and toured Britain), Ultrasound and Keith Tippett’s Tapestry.
Gethin has also appeared in a Duke Ellington tribute with Loren Scheonberg and Scott Hamilton.

Pianist Joe Webb and drummer Lloyd Haines first appeared on the Cardiff scene as participants in Cardiff Jazz Society’s “New Generation” jazz course. They are now, along with double bassist Huw Williams, fine examples of the high standard of musicians nurtured at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
